About đŧ Virtual Xylophone
Virtual Xylophone brings a colourful mallet-percussion instrument to your browser. It has 14 tuned bars spanning two octaves of the C major scale, from C4 up to C6, each rendered in a different vibrant colour with the note letter labelled on the bar. Tap or click any bar to strike it. Multiple simultaneous touches work on mobile â you can play chords by hitting multiple bars at once. Three mallet tone modes let you shape the sound. Bright uses inharmonic overtones at 3x and 5.4x the fundamental for a sharp, pingy attack typical of a wooden xylophone struck with a hard mallet. Warm uses more integer harmonics (2x, 3x) for a mellower, marimba-like tone struck with a softer mallet. Metal amplifies the inharmonic partials at 2.75x and 8.9x for a bell-like glockenspiel or metallophone sound. Every strike includes a tiny burst of high-pass filtered noise for the initial "click" of mallet on bar. Bars are laid out with the lowest note (C4) on the left and the highest (C6) on the right, and lower bars are drawn slightly longer than higher ones â just like a real xylophone. Preset song buttons play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Ode to Joy, and a full C major scale to demonstrate. Each song plays note-by-note so you can watch and learn the bar patterns.
