How to Play đ Verbal Memory Test
The Verbal Memory Test measures your recognition memory â your ability to recognise words you have previously encountered. It is simple to understand but surprisingly hard to maintain at high scores. Each round, a single word is shown in large text on the screen. You must decide: have you seen this word already during this session, or is this the first time it has appeared? Press SEEN if it appeared earlier, or NEW if it is a first appearance. You start with 3 lives. Each mistake â pressing SEEN for a word that is actually new, or pressing NEW for a word you have already seen â costs you one life. Your score increases by one for every correct answer. The tricky part is that as the game progresses and your list of seen words grows, the game increasingly re-shows old words mixed in with new ones. Your brain must hold a growing set of words in recognition memory while continuing to process new ones at pace. The average person scores between 10 and 20. Scores above 30 are considered strong, and above 50 is exceptional. The test is a direct measure of verbal working memory capacity â the same system used in reading comprehension, conversation, and language learning. Use the on-screen buttons or press S for Seen and N for New on your keyboard.
